ALL SOULS' DAY - 2008

2nd November 2008

Went to 10.00am church service , yes lah…rush rush from my line dancing class, cepat cepat mandi, wear a nice dress, spray some parfum (incase the sweaty smell is still there) and jumped into the car. Loh Kong dumped us (doters and me) outside the church in Section 52 PJaya (near Menara IJM – New Town)

After church service at 12.30noon, he came (niceleh to have an unpaid ahmad waiting- no need to look for parking) and drove us to the cemetery at Jalan 223. This is where my grand aunt (that my paternal grandma’s younger sister) is resting peacefully since 1991.

Christians observed All Souls’ Days (or Christian Ching Ming) on the 2nd of November of each year..so it’s lucky that this year this day fell on a Sunday..

Being Christians means that we as daughter / grand daughter or female relatives (married or otherwise) can visit the graves of our dearly departed. There is no taboo or pantang for us to observe and moreover, we can go to the cemetery on any days where one is feeling EMO.

I like going to cemetery, especially on Easter Sunday and All Souls’ Days because the whole place is like a park with lots of fresh flowers. It gives me the inner peace to see that the deceased are not forgotten although they are not there with the families and love ones.

That at least is an assurance that there are still family values and cultures that live on in this 'dog bite dog' world.
